Carbetamide is a selective herbicide which is mostly used to control annual grasses and to supress some broadleaf weeds (Hole et al., 2000). Carbetamide belongs to the carbamate family and is among the most used pesticides in the EU (consumption > 500 t/year). In the organism it stops cellular multiplication by specific inhibition of mitosis (Crovetto et al., 2013).

In laboratory batch experiments with avtivated sludge from a membrane bioreactor, the main transfomation product was the product of enzymatic hydrolysis at the amide functional group (Helbling et al., 2010).

The following is a text-format carbetamide map. Mixed bacterial cultures from activated sludge treatment can initiate the pathway. Follow the links for more information on compounds or reactions. This map is also available in graphic (3k) format.
